Matthew received his BFA in Lighting Design from DePaul University in 2004.  Since then he has worked as a lighting and scenic designer, as an electrician and a carpenter, and sometimes as a waiter and wine clerk throughout Chicago.

He has occupied his time with a gypsy/circus/punk marching band, on tour with a modern dance company, and worked on set for television productions.  He has designed over a hundred productions with a variety of theater companies in Chicago. 

 

It is however his experiences teaching art and design in colleges, high schools, outreach programs, and summer camps that brought him to the University of Minnesota for his MFA.  In addition to design in theater, Matthew is passionate about arts education, and its integration into the greater scholastic purpose.
